In the quiet parts of Boulby Mine, where machines hum and determination echoes, Dan Robinson is a true unsung hero.
As the Electrical Foreman, his skill and dedication to both his job and community make him invaluable. His journey shows the power of passion and service.
Dan’s career began in 2005 with an apprenticeship in electrical engineering. “I started my apprenticeship in electrical engineering in 2005,” he proudly recalls. He spent two years at TTE and two years on-site, building a strong foundation for his future at Boulby Mine. “I’ve been here since“.
Working underground on production and central operations, Dan quickly advanced. For the past six years, he has been the Underground Electrical Infrastructure Supervisor, a role that needs both technical skill and leadership. He ensures the mine operates safely and efficiently, a responsibility he fully embraces.
Dan’s dedication goes beyond the mine. As a child, he loved scouting, an experience that left a lasting impact. “I was a scout when I was younger,” he reminisces. Wanting the same for his son, he introduced him to scouting. The district lead volunteer soon saw Dan’s potential and asked him to lead the Scouts in Loftus.
Eighteen months ago, Dan became the Scout Leader, driven to keep the unit active. “I plan and run the scout program on Monday evenings,” he explains. His efforts include activities like the annual camp and an international gathering of scouts. For Dan, it’s about passing on skills and ensuring kids enjoy scouting as much as he did. “With the leader leaving, I thought it was a shame for the unit to stop,” he shares, showing his commitment.
Besides mining and scouting, Dan is also active in education. At his children’s school, he serves as the health and safety sponsored governor. “With my children at this school, I had a vested interest in their learning,” he says, discussing his journey from parent governor to sponsored governor.
